Our mission is to help people heal themselves. We do this by simplifying information that is relevant to them. We want people to understand how to heal themselves. Stem cells are one of the most powerful ways to heal. We have been giving Adipose derived Stem Cells since 2009 for conditions such as Osteoarthritis. Our results continue to improve with research and the refinement of our procedures and protocols.
Use your own body to heal yourself
Stem cells are found all over your body in all tissues. Their job is to heal the other cells around them. If those cells cannot be healed then the stem cells will replace the dying cell with a new one. In your body the Stromal Vascular Fraction is the home of your stem cells with all of their stored growth factors and cytokines. We can collect stem cells from any tissue. Adipose (Fat) and Bone Marrow are the most popular because they are easy to harvest. Adipose will give 50x more Mesenchymal Stem Cells than bone marrow. Researchers use cells from embryos.
How to Treat Osteoarthritis
To treat Osteoarthritis we need to restore the bodies ability to heal itself. Central to this is to repair the blood vessels so that they can deliver the food, medication, growth factors, and clean away the waste products. In order to know if the changes we make are helping we need to be able to measure the severity of your OA. Then make some changes to the every day basics, Diet and Movement. You may need help from Physical Therapy professionals. Drugs are a double edged sword. Learn how to control and maximise them. Test to see if your body will heal yourself; PRP, Cytokines and Stem Cells (SVF). If all fails consider surgery.
What causes Osteoarthritis?
We now know that repeated trauma (Wear and tear) will eventually start the changes of Osteoarthritis in everyone. Those early signs of wear and tear do not cause pain or loss of function. Your body heals by instigating an inflammatory healing cycle (Acute inflammation). If it is unable to finish healing it can shift to a damaging chronic inflammation. But even then arthritis does not progress in everyone.
Osteoarthritis progresses if blood vessels are unable to supply enough nutrients and to remove waste products to allow healing to happen. Laslett et al gave a very good summary of different changes that may be seen in joint tissues . They then grouped these processes (pathologies) in an effort to understand which treatment would be best for each sub-type. Most commonly this happens when blood vessel walls become inflamed and atheroma can cause permanent narrowing. But there are other less common pathologies that may help to explain why treatment does not work for you.
If you understand inflammation it is easier to see the changes and to slow down or even halt deterioration.
What type of Osteoarthritis do I have?
Laslett et al report specific types of OA that have been proposed in the literature and may reflect how the OA was caused. This may determine how to treat each sub-type. Can we treat the cause rather than the result. Bijlsma et al proposes that if we can diagnose the cause early we can treat early to prevent progression.
- bone-specific subtype [ref],
- predominantly bone marrow lesions in the subchondral bone [ref],
- traumatic (acute or repetitive) which may be
- metabolic (including systemic inflammatory), ageing, genetic and pain [ref], as well as
- atrophic (few osteophytes with severe joint space narrowing (JSN)), (ref)
- hypertrophic (large osteophytes, little JSN) [ref])
The cause of OA varies according to the main joint site(s) affected.
- Hip and knee OA can result from the majority of the subtypes,(ref)
- Thumb, shoulder, elbow and ankle OA are mainly caused by post-traumatic stresses [ref].
Diet
Diet is extremely important for everything we do. If you don’t understand diet you will always be swimming against the current. When you are young and healthy you can eat almost anything and the damage will be repaired. As you get older you will not repair so easily. Any illness or disease will further limit your recovery. Anti-inflammatory foods are your medicine against the trauma and stress of life. Inflammatory foods are your poison.
How bad is my Osteoarthritis?
You can measure the severity of your Osteoarthritis by your symptoms and loss of function. X-rays are inexpensive, CT and MRI can see cartilage and are useful for measuring all the other tissues that are involved. This can help diagnose the cause of your OA and guide prevention and treatment.
